Twenty-two people for lunch – and a visit from Father Christmas!
We abandoned the idea of turkey this year, and served ham, seafood and lobster salad – a good move when its warm weather. Actually, it’s been a very mild December – after Cyclone Mick passed, we’ve had warm clear days and temperatures of 24 – 28 degrees, without any of the heavy humidity we sometimes have in December.
We had drinks before Christmas lunch up in the new shala, and Father Christmas puffed and panted his way up with his sack of presents. Everyone got one – from the youngest boys Basty and George (7 and 10) to the oldest guests – Martin, age indeterminate but a doting grandfather to his new 8 month old granddaughter. And there were party games at lunch and much merriment all round.
